RIVER FOWEY I

The ancient towns of Fowey (Cornish: Fowydh, meaning 'Beech Trees') and Polruan sit on either side of a natural harbour at the mouth of the River Fowey on the south coast. In days of old, local ship owners often hired their vessels to the monarch to support various wars, although the towns also developed a reputation for piracy and privateering. Now a popular tourist destination.
